Sean’s Charity Cycle Ride

WEC is very proud indeed to have sponsored our Programme Manager Sean Morson on his recent cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. Sean completed the 980 mile trip in 9 days, averaging 109 miles per day with a total climb equivalent to 1.6 Mount Everests. Sean endured some difficult weather along the way, including 50mph cross-winds on day 8 but of course persevered to deliver to programme.

Our congratulations to Sean on this outstanding achievement and for raising a significant sum in support of such a worthy cause.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia today. Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and there’s currently no cure.

Queen’s Award Presentation

This morning, Woodford Engineering Consultancy had the great honour of welcoming the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Paul Griffiths DL to our head office in Cheadle Hulme. The Vice Lord-Lieutenant made the formal presentation of our Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the form of a commemorative crystal bowl and a Grant of Appointment scroll signed by Her Majesty the Queen and the Prime Minister. During his visit, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant had the opportunity to meet many of our engineers and learn a little about what we do in aircraft systems development.

Woodford Engineering Consultancy is one of only 201 organisations nationally to be recognised with a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise, Britain’s most coveted commercial prize. The award is in the category of International Trade, for which 129 awards were made nationally. The award reflects not only our significant and growing export revenue but also a recognition of the value of what we do, in playing our part in the maintenance and development of the UK’s High Value Design capability.

This was a welcome opportunity to express our perspective on the strategic challenges facing the British aerospace industry, directly into government.
